About Dr. Marlowe

Elaine Marlowe is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, writer, retreat facilitator, and speaker. She is the owner of Le ferme de le sokeil - The Farm of the Sunlight where she is working to restore the Century farm house and land as a quiet retreat center for therapy.

A licensed professional clinical counselor and Jungian-oriented psychotherapist with an eclectic theoretical orientation, Dr. Marlowe has been in clinical practice for the past nine years. She completed residency at Family Services in Canton, OH, and opened a private practice in Fairlawn, OH in 2000. She holds a Ph.D., M.Ed., and BS from Kent State University. She also completed a second master's degree at Edinboro State University, and is a graduate of the Gestalt Organizational and Systems Development Program in Cleveland, OH.

Dr. Marlowe's areas of professional competence include: diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional disorders, mental health counseling, organizational / educational consultation and training, and counseling with individuals, children, couples, families, and groups. Dr. Marlowe has presented a variety of professional programs ranging from indentification of symptoms and treatment of suicidal ideation to clarification of role responsibilities in the supervisory relationship. She has designed and facilitated retreats dealing with women's growth, and presented seminars on such topics as divorce, stress management, and loss grief. Marlowe has also designed and facilitated numerous psychotherapy groups on topics including parent-child relationships, death, eating disorders, sexual abuse, additions, and life transitions.

In addition to being a clinical counselor, Elaine Marlowe has had a distinguished career as an educator. She taught in the public school system for 13 years and has served as an administrator and consultant in the fields of preschool and child care. She was a teaching fellow during her doctoral program and has served as an adjunct professor at a community college and university. Marlowe has owned and operated her own consulting / training business . She has also worked as a case worker doing assesment and court work on behalf of abused and neglected children.

Elaine Marlowe was inducted into the Counselor's National Honor Society known as Chi Sigma Iota in 1994. She was honored with the Student Award for Scholarship and Service at Kent State University in 1996. She will be listed in the 2005/2006 Manchester Who's Who Among Professional Women in Counseling and Development.

Dr. Marlowe's doctoral dissertation, A Multicultural Phenomenological Study of How Women Develop Through Transcending the Psychologically Oppressive Aspects of Their Intergenerational Family Stories About Women was published in 2001. Her scholarly research along with clinical practice, serves to inform Marlowe's current work on a book entitled: Women Who Choose to Grow.

With a strong sense of community value, Elaine has served in multiple roles as a volunteer wherever she has lived. In Akron she has worked in the Hematology / Oncology Clinic and at the Cancer Camp for children at Akron Children's Hospital Medical Center. She served as co-facilitator of a support group for children at the American Red Cross during Desert Storm and is currently on call as a Mental Health Emergency Services worker for the American Red Cross. Elaine has acted as a Crisis Intervention volunteer, foster parent, facilitator of youth programs, and liaison between local, state, and federal government agencies for the development of youth services.
